Setting: San Francisco pg. 112
Plot: Nellie Bly--who's real name was Elizabeth Cochrane-- was a daring American journalist who wanted to travel around the world because a man on the news, to which the story was called "Around the World in Eighty Days." But since she was a woman, she was allowed to do the things that men were able to do. What Nellie wanted to do was travel around the world in EIGHT days. But she did things her own way and boarded a ship from New York to Europe. Nellie then began to write her story and she called it "The World." It was about a girl who was going to beat the hero of the novel and go around the world in less than eighty days. Readers gave interest into this and read with amazement. Nellie then traveled from France down to Italy, and then boarded a sail eastward across the Mediterranean sea. She wrote all her adventures down along the way about everything she had been through and seen. She was in Japan and went across the Pacific Ocean to America, hoping she would make it in time. She finally made it back to New York in time, where everybody cheered and admired her amazing stories. People called it "The Age of Rapid Travel."
